Message to the Yemeni immigrants community

 

INS SPECIAL REGISTRATION FOR YEMENI NATIONALS/CITIZENS WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE US.

 

Who Must Register?

Males, born on or before November 15, 1986
Nationals/citizens of
Yemen, Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, and U.A.E. (If you are a dual citizen, but a national/citizen of any of the above countries, you are still subject to special registration). 
Will remain in the US until at least January 10, 2003 
Entered the US on or before September 30, 2002 


When to register?
From January 27, 2003 Until February 7, 2003

What you have to bring with you to special register?
Passport, I-94, I-20, DS2019, other INS documents, any other forms of government issued identification. 
Proof of residence, example, lease or rental agreement for your apartment/house, title to your house. 
Proof of matriculation at an educational institution or proof of employment.

 

What you will have to do?
Answer questions under oath before an immigration officer; your answers will be recorded. 
Show other information as required by the immigration officer. 
Be fingerprinted and photographed by the immigration officer. 
Report to the Immigration Service within 10 days of each anniversary of the date which you were registered. 
Notify the INS of any change of address on form AR-11, within 10 days of a change of address.

 

If you do not comply with special registration:
The penalties for not complying with special registration are severe. A willful failure to comply will cause you to be out of lawful immigration status, and you will be deportable, unless you can establish to the satisfaction of the Attorney General that such failure was reasonably excusable or was not willful.

Failure to comply without good cause will mean that you will have to report to an inspecting officer of the Immigration Service when you leave the United States and you could potentially be barred from entering the United States in the future.
