President Ali Abdullah Saleh Pardons Al-Khaiwani

Judge Hammoud Al Hitar, the President of the National Dialogue Committee, confirmed: the Honorable President Ali Abdullah Saleh has indeed pardoned the jailed opposition journalist, Mr. AbdulKarim Al Khaiwani, who is the Al-Shoura Editor-in-Chief.

This decision coincides with the President's orders to eliminate the imprisonment of journalists. The President had ordered the Ministry of Information last Fall to initiate a project for the modification of the Press Law and the cancellation of the imprisonment sanctions towards journalists.

The Presidential decision for the pardon enters within the president's authorities according to the constitution, and to his authorities as the guardian and President of the Supreme Judicial Council.
